Interviewing Another Empowering Woman: From Housewife to Lawyer

I know so many amazing, empowering, inspiring, hands-down, kick-ass women. In a world of easy and accessible comparisons, (hello social media!), I think we often forget our strengths and how powerful we all are. And naturally, I feel the same way, so often. So when I thought about all of the amazing women around me, Melody was one that immediately came to mind. I wanted to know more about her story. And what better thing to do than to share it with you all, too!

Our Background

Melody and I met in the winter of 2020/21, just after she welcomed her third baby. She reached out to book newborn photos and from there the rest is history. I have since taken photos for multiple Mother’s Days, family sessions, extended family sessions, a rocking divorce session, and recently, her wedding day! The amount of sessions we have done together are endless and through them we’ve become great friends- talk about hype sisters!

A Bit of Melody’s Story

Melody was born and raised in Pittsburg, spent some time in the Middle East, and later moved to Chicago. She was born and raised within the Jewish community and identifies strongly with the people and culture. At a young age, and through her first marriage, Melody began practicing Orthodox Judaism. After welcoming three beautiful children, Melody felt her path in life moving in a direction, she would describe as, more truthful with herself. She divorced from her first husband and began writing a story of her own. She left practicing orthodox Judaism and now identifies as a culturally Jewish woman. Her story led her through navigating dating as a Mom of three, enrolling in Law school, and matching with her now husband, Jake, on Hinge (shoutout to Hinge!).

Why Melody’s Story Inspires Me

Often times, putting a halt to your life and starting over feels daunting, terrifying, and almost impossible. And while I have not experienced the heartbreaks and loss that Melody has, I think everyone can agree that starting over is not an easy task. When Melody reached out to me after her divorce, I was shocked to hear the news. But over the course of the last several years, watching Melody rebirth and grow this life that was all hers, driven by her own desires and dreams, was so empowering to me.

So empowering, that the number of Uber drives that know Melody’s story without even knowing Melody because I rant and rave about her might actually be embarrassing. I mean, freaking law school! With three children! After going through a divorce and absolutely changing your lifestyle! WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!? But I watched her tackle it with such enthusiasm. With such force. With such motivation and drive. That I knew one day I needed to know her story. I needed more. I wanted to know how she managed to do it all. How did manage all the changes? How did she manage it with children? How did she juggle doing it all? How did she come to this pivotal place in life and make the leap?

I didn’t want to hold this story to just me, because I think others can find themselves just as inspired by Melody. So without giving away any more, check out my interview with her on YouTube HERE now!
