In case you missed it, Sadie’s birth Vlog is now up on my YouTube channel, linked HERE. But for my reading preferred followers, I’m also sharing a bit of Sadie’s story here!

Our sweet, final, most perfect addition to our family was born on none other than the Fourth of July. Needing to make a statement fucking entrance to ensure she is never forgotten about as the fourth child in the household.
Around 5am that morning, our youngest climbed into bed with me, talking my ear off and would simply not stop. Around 5:10am, I felt the first contraction of many to come. Aside from my toddler’s very important conversation he was trying to have, the pain woke me up from a pretty decent sleep. I ignored it and went back to sleep. Ten minutes later, BAM, another one hit and this continued on for the duration of the hour.
Finally around 6am, after nothing letting up, I decided it was time to get up and move around- my go to in every labor to double check what is real and what isn’t. Almost immediately, the gravity and pressure that was put on my cervix from standing up, intensified my contractions from 10 minutes apart to 4 minutes apart.

I texted family cancelling the Fourth of July BBQ we were hosting and immediately people were on their way to help out. I showered, knowing that could potentially help slow things down, but to no avail- this was indeed true labor! We called the doctor/hospital and by 7:45am we were on our way.
Around 8:30am we arrived at the hospital and were admitted- I was 5cm dilated and completely thinned+effaced. Clearly, a lot of my labor occurred in the middle of the night while I was asleep and it wasn’t until things transitioned that it woke me up. We had planned to vlog much more of the morning, but I could barely talk the entire ride to the hospital.
Once in labor and delivery, around 9:15am the doctor came in to ask if I wanted my waters broken to progress things quickly. Knowing the history of my past labors, we both knew this meant things would move very quickly- as each time before, I delivered within an hour of my waters breaking. Since I did not eat prior to leaving the house in a rush, I said “absolutely yes! I want to make it to lunch, I’m starving!”

At 9:43am, the doctor broke my waters and everything moved exactly as we expected. I should apologize to the anesthesiologist that came in and asked me- what felt like- a million and one questions to which I responded very cold, short, and impolitely to. It was the contractions talking- I’m sorry. I declined any medications and settled on my plans to get through one last unmedicated birth.
After barely 40 minutes of intense labor and 10 minutes of pushing, at 10:29am (my birthday numerals), our Sadie James was born. To say we were speechless is an understatement, actually. Phil was so distracted he barely announced the gender. I was in disbelief we got the girl we were dreaming of. And everything else moved so fast. We were so consumed in taking in every moment of this “last time.”
A huge thank you to the most amazing nurses and doctor team we could have ever asked for! I could not have imagined a better, last experience. And now that we’re home and settling in- we’re adjusting to life as a family of six.
