Each time we’ve added a baby to the family, my only goal is to tone down our responsibilities as much as possible. I’m always thinking about how our load can be lightened prior to the arrival of a very demanding newborn.
Can one of these kids be potty trained? Absolutely happening!
Can one of these kids learn to dress themselves? Let’s do the damn thing!
In this case, can one of these kids be transitioned into a ‘big boy’ bed? Let’s get this over with now!
It was only time that the boy’s combined rooms and we transitioned our youngest into his big boy bed (which was truthfully a frightening thought, as he was our crib climber). I mean, who really wants to work through a bed transition AND be up all night with a newborn? Not. Me. We anticipated a bit of a challenge, but honestly, so far, so good- he has transitioned well and has not tried much to leave the bed or his room (fingers crossed it stays!).
Our oldest has recently taken a massive liking to sports, especially basketball (thanks, March madness!). And when planning out their vision board for the room, it was difficult to choose something that was fitting for a six-year-old and a two-year-old, so simple sports felt perfect. We took portraits of the boy’s in my studio space to replace old posters in the room- and my oldest insisted he wear his Michael Jordan jersey. Initially, the cringe was real- he chose blues and greens…anddddd a fire-hydrant red Michael Jordan jersey. If you know me, and my relationship with colors, you could image the horror in my face.
After quickly realizing I could black and white the images (which honestly gives such a more timeless look anyways), we then also decided to put his brother in his Walter Payton jersey (I mean, name more iconic Chicago players- I’ll wait). Sports theme at it’s finest + the blues and greens like he wanted!
The boy’s could not be more obsessed with the final look of their room. They are obsessed with sharing a space together, their co-dependency is thriving, and that basketball hoop is providing them hours of entertainment (and equally me being left alone- major win!).
