Adjusting. Time Batching. Temporary Solo-Parenting. A Glimpse into the Week Ahead.

This week is none other than, SPRING BREAK! Since quitting my full time position as a teacher, I’m still adjusting to the mentality that these weeks mean absolutely nothing for me anymore. Business still exists- only this time, with all three children home 24/7- (send prayers!).

Generally, these weeks are helpful because Phil is home 24/7 as well. Which means I get to clock in some extra working hours. However, this Spring Break is looking a bit differently. Phil has booked a Spring Break trip away with the boys- only a mere 6 days 🥴 (we’re fine, all will be fine, I think). So what does that mean for us at home and me wearing two full time hats as Mom and business owner? A whole lot of adjusting from our normal routine, that’s what!

I thrive off of routine and, the Type A in me, is incapable of flying by the seat of my pants. So my best piece of advice when feeling like you are juggling all of the things, is to plan ahead!

Personally, I use Google calendar to time batch my day so I know exactly when I have time to complete specific tasks. It also helps keep me accountable in focusing, executing, and moving onto the next thing. Otherwise, we all become very lost and stressed within the shuffle of the day! Since I’m more of a morning person than an evening person, I time batch my tasks as much as possible for the morning and leave my evenings free. This gives me the opportunity to call it a day if I feel tapped out and drained or to cross off a few extra items off of my to-do list.

A quick glimpse into the week ahead (I had to hide Wednesday-Friday because there’s a big project on the way!). I simply add in ‘focus time’ onto my Google calendar and name the time for what makes the most sense during that time. Some things I batch in my time:

  • Emails
  • Editing (this is my most flexible task, because I can easily do this and pull away from it mindlessly to tend to the kids- so it doesn’t always get a block of it’s own)
  • Errands
  • Meals
  • Cleaning Up the House
  • Play with Kids (because let’s face it, everything else in Motherhood and Business life will consume me)
  • Small tasks that I’ll otherwise forget about doing- HA!

I know some of those items seem a bit silly to block in, but I truly have to! Otherwise, I suffer from a multi-tasking brain. You know, the one that tells you mid-washing the dishes that you have to stop immediately to wipe down all of the cabinets, then you remember that one cabinet you needed to reorganize, then you start throwing things away and remember the closet upstairs had a whole section of clothes to be gone through and donated, so you go upstairs…and the rest is history? Yeah, that brain. That’s me!

Time-batching it all in is just what I have to do to keep myself organized and continuing to check things off of my list. But I think above all else, I definitely give myself grace and a whole lot of flexibility during stressful, overwhelming weeks like these. Planning ahead, but knowing when I need to scale back and rest is essential. And that’s what’s most important, always!

    I love that bake a cake has a time slot, too! 🤤 I’ve never thought of scheduling everything out like that bc I also struggle with that multi-tasking brain so maybe I will give it a try!

      It’s definitely needed! LOL! Otherwise, those become the small, mundane tasks I back-burn and never come back to. OR- they take priority because I’m simply avoiding. Either way, everything needs a space so it actually gets done!
